Hey John,
Recruiting local candidates is only the first step. Whether they can actually win depends on whether they can plug into county Democratic Parties that already have the resources to fundraise, recruit volunteers, and organize year-round.
That’s exactly what Contest Every Race’s Grants Program is built to do nationally.
The Athens-Clarke County Democratic Committee recently told us that because of CER’s financial support, they were able to print walk cards and canvass more than 1,000 voters the same weekend a special election was announced, and before Republicans even found a candidate to run. ( The Democrat ended up winning by 198 votes. )
That kind of head start can’t be created at the last minute. It only exists when local party infrastructure is already in place.
With candidate filing deadlines approaching and campaigns taking shape right now, this is the window when strong county parties actually determine how competitive candidates can be.
Will you chip in $9 today to support our Grants Program and make sure candidates are running with real local party infrastructure behind them? [[link removed]]
