Dear NRDC Supporter,
If this weekend’s extreme winter weather left you worried about your family, your community, or your energy bill… you’re not alone.
More than 200 million Americans across 40 states were hit by dangerous cold, icy roads, and widespread power outages. And while winter storms aren’t new, what is new is how often our communities are grappling with unnatural disasters — from floods and hurricanes to wildfires and more intense weather.
Put simply: last weekend was part of a larger, dangerous pattern.
But as families were bracing for yet another life-threatening storm, the Trump administration was advancing an agenda that guarantees more frequent and severe unnatural disasters.
President Trump even took to social media to deny the reality of climate change, saying: “Record Cold Wave expected to hit 40 States. Rarely seen anything like it before. Could the Environmental Insurrectionists please explain — WHATEVER HAPPENED TO GLOBAL WARMING???”
That denial is not light-hearted or rhetorical. It’s the justification for prioritizing the interests of Big Oil billionaires over the needs of communities across the country.
But we won’t stand for that.
Right now, NRDC is fighting in court to:
- Defend new solar and wind energy projects.
- Protect the fragile Arctic from fossil fuel destruction.
- Force the administration to comply with air pollution limits.
- Halt illegal offshore drilling.
And we're litigating dozens of other cases that could have real impacts on our daily lives and climate future.
Just last week, NRDC and our partners secured a legal victory that will protect billions in federal funds intended to build high-speed electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country — further reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.
If you’re able, please consider making a gift to NRDC today to support this work and all of our efforts to secure a safer, cleaner, healthier future. Until January 31st, your gift will be doubled thanks to a generous matching grant from Kate Adams, Duke Wiser, and their family.
We know this moment is frightening for many people. Extreme weather is disrupting our way of life, straining budgets, and threatening the places we care about. But together, we can push back against policies that make things worse — and fight for solutions that keep us safe.
Thank you for standing with us.
Sincerely,
The NRDC Team
