Disabled Lives Are Worth Living |
Diana L. Banister, a political and communications strategist, "The disability community, which adamantly opposes this legislation, rightly points out the disabled and elderly are abused every day and can be easily manipulated to take this step by the medical community, by family and friends who no longer have use for them. In Memoriam: Thomas Edward Sullivan, MD |
The Patients' Rights Action Fund honors Dr. Tom Sullivan, who was dogged in his efforts to defeat assisted suicide. It was common to see him at a Massachusetts lobby day, at meetings of the Massachusetts coalition, writing pieces for publications and testifying before the American Medical Association to keep it opposed to assisted suicide. Most importantly, he was dedicated to the patients he served for 37 years. His wife said at his funeral to those who worked with him on assisted suicide, “Keep fighting, keep fighting in his name!” It is an honor and privilege to invoke his name and spirit as we soldier on. RIP, dear servant.

The plaintiffs argue that assisted suicide law violates core protections under the U.S. Constitution and federal civil rights laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. |
