The rhetoric coming out of Davos last week and the White House this week is out of control and reckless.

Threatening to take control of Greenland and Canada by force isn't "toughness"—it would be a violation of NATO and would trigger our allies to declare war on us in defense of Greenland or Canada. It would be the end of the post-WWII order… if it isn’t already on its way to the grave.

As a JAG who taught about the importance of allies working together to establish laws of war and ethics of war, and to foster global stability for future officers, I am disgusted to see our country treated like an aggressor against our own NATO allies.

We need serious people in the Senate who understand that the Constitution vests the power to declare war in them, not the president. Our security depends on the Rule of Law, not the whims of a tough-guy ego trying to bully his personal opponents, only to back down when it becomes clear he would be going it alone.
