I wish I were writing with better news, John. We just got word that the North American right whale is now red-listed as critically endangered. Only 400 of these majestic and highly intelligent animals remain on the planet -- and they aren’t the only ones teetering on the brink of extinction. TAKE ACTION now with a $10 contribution to Friends of the Earth.

Right now, there are 32,000 species on the red-list, in danger of being lost forever. In the past, we’ve relied on hard-won environmental legislation like the Endangered Species Act to protect our wildlife. But now the Department of the Interior and the Fish and Wildlife Service are taking steps to gut the Endangered Species Act and other environmental regulations. Their plan is to make it easy for fossil fuel companies to log, mine, frack, and drill our critical habitats.

We cannot allow our precious species to be driven to extinction by the greed and corruption of Big Polluters.

Help save the North American right whale and other endangered species: Donate $10 or more now!

Every species is important, but right whales play a special and irreplaceable role in our marine environments: They, along with other large whales, are key to combating climate change and protecting our own future.

Whales serve as ecosystem engineers and provide crucial nutrients to phytoplankton -- tiny ocean plants that produce over 50% of our oxygen, sequester billions of tons of carbon per year, and make up the foundation of the marine food system upon which virtually all ocean life depends. We are interdependent: We rely on these whales for our own future -- just as they are counting on us now.

If we don’t act now, right whales could be extinct in 25 years. Donate $10 or more and help save this critical species!

We can’t let big planet-wrecking polluters wipe out the right whale so they can get another payday. That’s why we’re working tirelessly with allies to advance new legislation, including the PAW and FIN Conservation Act, that would put a stop to these attacks on our wildlife and public lands and waters.

It’s going to take everything we’ve got to defend our endangered species --from the mighty whales to our insect pollinators -- but I believe in us. Friends of the Earth is the world’s largest grassroots environmental network -- and our voices have never been more needed. Our work to protect life on Earth is possible because of the people like you who power this movement.

Please, empower the fight to protect whales and other endangered species with a $10 donation to Friends of the Earth today.
