Snodeo Weekend Reminder: Ride Safe, Ride Sober

With over a half foot of fresh snow on the ground and Snodeo weekend [ [link removed] ] getting underway this Thursday in Rangeley, more riders will be out enjoying Maine’s snowmobile trails. At Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the great conditions while keeping safety top of mind—both on and off the trails.

*Do not ride impaired*. Operating a snowmobile while under the influence – which applies to both drugs and alcohol – puts you, your passengers, and others at serious risk. Even some prescription medications can make operating a recreational vehicle difficult and unsafe. Maine law prohibits operating a snowmobile while under the influence, and wardens will be actively patrolling throughout the weekend.

*Riders are also reminded to: *

* Stay on marked trails and obey posted signs and closures
* Ride at a safe speed for conditions and visibility
* Watch for trail crossings, logging operations, and other trail users
* Plan ahead and make smart decisions before heading out
* Remember that modified exhausts are illegal

Enjoy the weekend and help keep Maine’s trails safe for everyone.

Thank a Land Owner

More than 85% of Maine's snowmobile trails are on private land, and with 13,000 miles of trails, that’s a lot of generous landowners! Help ensure Maine's trails stay open for generations to come by respecting private landowners and staying on the trail.

You can also show your appreciation and support for private landowners by becoming an Outdoor Partner [ [link removed] ].
