We have one final chance to stop one of the worst oil pipelines on Earth.
It is truly monstrous.
It would be the longest heated pipeline on the planet, pumping up to a quarter million barrels of oil every single day. Snaking through Uganda and Tanzania, it'll tear through elephant sanctuaries, twelve protected forests, and more than 200 rivers.
Thousands of families are being evicted to clear the way -- and people are getting beaten and arrested for speaking out.
Our movement has been fighting this pipeline for years. But despite some important breakthroughs, construction is charging ahead. This could be our last chance to stop it.
Right now, one of the UK's top law firms is preparing to take the owners of the pipeline to court. Legal experts believe the case has a real chance of stopping the pipeline outright -- but we have to launch it now, before construction is completed.
That's why I'm writing to you today.

 Thousands of families are being evicted to make way for this monster pipeline in East Africa. Security forces are beating and arresting people for speaking out. This court case is the last credible route to saving their homes and protecting some of the planet's most precious ecosystems. At a time when global politics feels increasingly chaotic, it can be hard to believe real change is still possible. International agreements are being ripped up, wars dominate the headlines, and powerful interests keep pushing new fossil fuel projects forward. But this fight is different. By funding this lawsuit, we have the opportunity to land a decisive blow against one of the most destructive oil projects on the planet.
With help from Avaaz members, communities in East Africa have already fought this project through regional courts -- but their case was dismissed on a technicality. This new lawsuit in the UK is the last remaining path to stopping this monster pipeline. Legal experts believe it offers a far better shot at a fair, independent hearing -- with a real possibility of success. If we raise enough, we could:
- Help fund a groundbreaking court case in the UK to stop this pipeline, exposing the environmental abuses and climate devastation that this project will cause;
- Stage an epic media stunt around the launch of the court case, increasing pressure on insurance companies to walk away from the project;
- Support families in Uganda and Tanzania who are fighting their evictions, providing cash assistance for food, medicine and other basic necessities;
- Fuel Avaaz campaigns to defend land rights alongside Indigenous and frontline communities, and continue the fight to protect life on Earth.

They are working closely with Ugandan lawyers and affected communities.
- Why this case is in the UK: Although the East African Crude Oil Pipeline is being built in Uganda and Tanzania, the company that owns and runs it is registered in the UK, which means it can be challenged in UK courts.
