Welcome to this summer bumper issue of Plug In, your update for all things ultra low in Nottingham. Thanks to new grant funding were so excited to bring you news of the projects weve been starting.

Future Transport Zones, D2N2 charge point network expansion, Electric Van Experience, Workplace Travel Service revamp and electric taxi charging, read below to see some of the projects well be working on in the coming months and years!

Future Transport Zones
Multiple modes of transport

Nottingham and Derby are one of four new Future Transport Zone areas tasked with delivering new modes of transport. Having secured 16.7m [ [link removed] ] well be introducing new innovative mobility services, improving the integration of services and increasing the availability of real-time data. The Future Transport Zone programme is focused around three core themes:


* *Integrated ticketing* well be tying in different forms of transport across Nottingham and Derby, including a further rollout of contactless payment methods for a range of services including ebikes, parking, taxis, car club and electric vehicle charging, alongside public transport offers
* *Data platform * were going to create a data platform with live information feeds and a better management of the transport network with improved cameras and sensors to provide real time information to keep travellers informed
* *Electric mobility hubs * these will be in various settings such as residential communities, employment/university campuses and at Council fleet depos to provide a combination of services, particularly around electric mobility

Linked to the Future Transport Zone well also be introducing our e-scooter rental scheme!

Scoot over, electric scooters are coming our way

Providing a fun, convenient transport option, e-scooters could help to take people out of cars, reducing congestion and emissions.

The Department for Transport are legalising the trial of rental e-scooters for a 12 month period to help with the green restart of transport. Nottingham City Council in partnership with Derby City Council are looking to introduce a long term e-scooter rental scheme to support key workers, workers and students to travel to work and education. A procurement is underway and we hope to have an Operator selected by the end of August.

D2N2 Charge Point expansion set to continue

Thanks to Transforming Cities funding we are continuing our highly successful D2N2 charge point expansion. Weve already installed413 charge points [ [link removed] ], with more in the works right now, and were going to be adding even more! Focusing on rapid hubs, we want to support more people making the switch to electric.

VERY EXCITING NEWS! On the cusp of a new EV Experience

On its way: introducing the Electric Van Experience [ [link removed] ] (EVE).

COMING AUTUMN 2020: Up to 50 electric vehicles providing a fully funded electric van loan to Nottingham businesses, the public and voluntary sector. Were aiming to support 100 organisations or more with loans available over two years. Well also have grants for participating businesses to install a new charging point. The service will include vehicle handovers and support to help organisations cut through the myths and barriers to electric vehicle adoption.

On top of the EVE, our Workplace Travel Service (WTS) has been revamped [ [link removed] ] with a further 1m for sustainable transport infrastructure grants on offer over the next three to four years. Also by autumn 2020 we will have eight eCargo bikes available for loan from our up and running NEVS centre [ [link removed] ]. Read below for more on the e-cargo bikes.

Wireless taxi charging

Funding from Innovate UK is enabling us to trial wireless charging [ [link removed] ] with our taxi drivers. Well be installing wireless charging pads and purchasing 8 new electric cabs which will be fitted with the wireless charging hardware for drivers to trial. Testing will commence after the equipment and software has been procured in one of our Depots before rolling out into a taxi rank as the next stage.

Healthy, zero emissions transport

50,000 funding has been secured to bring eCargo bikes to Nottingham. Teaming up with Raleigh [ [link removed] ], the eCargo cycles are designed to transport bulkier items between locations while being cost efficient and zero emissions.

Contactless parking payment

If youll be parking in Trinity Square or Lace Market multi-storey car parks make sure to download the RHParking app for free. With RHParking you can add vehicles to your app and enable Auto Payment so your vehicle can enter and exit via automatic number plate recognition with automatic payment on exit.

Green number plates

Green number plate

Following the response to the Green Number Plate consultation [ [link removed] ], green number plates for EVs will be introduced across the UK from autumn.

Well be swapping the plates on our fleet of 142 electric vehicles to help raise awareness of the range of electric vehicles on our roads!

Nissan EV drivers are invited to take part in a vehicle to grid trial

If you drive a Nissan EV with a battery capacity of 30kWh or more and are living in the Midlands, South West or South Wales you could be eligible to trial a domestic Vehicle to Grid (V2G) smart EV charger worth 5,500! The Electric Nation V2G project

The Energy for Business grant fund re-opens for applications

Are you planning an energy related project or need to purchase new equipment to grow your business? You can apply for 40% of the cost from the Energy for Business grant fund, an EU funded project delivered by the Energy Innovation and Collaboration team at the University of Nottingham.

Successful applicants can receive up to 8k (maximum project cost of 20k). The closing date for the new funding round is 28/08/2020. This capital grant is for businesses who wish to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions or who are implementing sustainable energy technologies. To be successful, businesses must be classified as SME, based in the D2N2 region (Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire) and be able to demonstrate a low-carbon element to their project.
