Celebrating National School Choice Week!

This National School Choice Week, we celebrate the freedom of families to direct their children's futures, a movement that first began right here in Wisconsin. Since then, WILL has been on the frontlines fighting to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed regardless of their background or zip code.

Despite this, school choice remains under attack. A constant critique coming from the Left is that private schools are a tool used to discriminate and exclude minority students. As WILL points out in the graph below, this couldn't be further from the truth. According to the state's own data, private schools within the Wisconsin choice programs are MORE likely to consist of minority and low-income students. Because education isn't one-size-fits-all, and all students deserves a school where they can thrive and succeed.

Everyone Knows Property Taxes Are a Problem. Here's a Solution

It is no secret that Wisconsin is one of the highest property taxed states in the nation. Our state is 9th highest, in fact.

That's why in a new analysis, WILL's Research Director, Will Flanders, identified the problem as a "funding swap" that allows school districts to offset state aid reductions by raising local property taxes. By decoupling choice funding from the local levy—a move proposed in AB 900—the state could provide a dollar-for-dollar tax cut totaling $357 million annually. This change would shift the fiscal responsibility of state-mandated programs away from homeowners and back to the Wisconsin state budget.

WILL Teams Up with Americans for Prosperity for "Red Tape Reset"

WILL is teaming up with Americans for Prosperity (AFP) this week for a series of discussions aimed at dismantling the state's hidden cost of overregulation.

These events, including a discussion in Waukesha tonight and a townhall in Franklin tomorrow, feature insights from WILL’s Kyle Koenen and Lucas Vebber alongside state legislative leaders. The events will focus on the "Red Tape Reset" legislative package (AB 276 / SB 275), an effort to restore transparency and curb the administrative overreach that has fueled job losses and business decline across Wisconsin.

As the state heads into 2026, these sessions provide a fresh look at how restoring accountability in the regulatory process can empower local workers and small businesses.

Coming Soon: "If You Can Keep It" Episode 3

Next Monday, join WILL President Rick Esenberg on "If You Can Keep It" as he explores why the era of DEI ideology is finally facing a reckoning across academia and corporate America. We pivot from the "affordability crisis" to the culture of our institutions, diving deep into the legal battles reshaping everything from journalism and entertainment to the college campus.

Our special guest is Dan Lennington, WILL’s Vice President and Deputy Counsel. As a leading voice for equality under the law, Dan shares his experience dismantling discriminatory programs and explains how these national policy shifts impact your daily life in 2026.
