Dr. Jasmeet Bains is a family physician and Blue Dog-endorsed candidate running for Congress in California’s 22nd district. She was just featured in The Wall Street Journal as part of a growing wave of doctors running for Congress.
Dr. Bains is running against extreme Republican David Valadao, who voted to cut Medicaid and jeopardize access to healthcare for his constituents. This is especially offensive in this district, where 2/3rds of residents are currently enrolled in Medicaid.
As Dr. Bains explained to the Wall Street Journal, “I used to transfer people from private insurance to Medicaid. But now I’m transferring people from Medicaid to nothing.”
That’s why she’s running for Congress. She’s fighting to hold David Valadao accountable for his broken promises on healthcare. After repeatedly pledging not to gut Medicaid, he cast the deciding vote for the largest cut to Medicaid in history — ripping away coverage from over 68,000 people in his own district.
