As I look at what’s happening across our country, what I hear from Michiganders is that people want public safety solutions that protect families, strengthen communities, and uphold the basic dignity of every person.
They want safety that comes from order – not fear.
That’s why I stand with my colleagues in saying: Not one more dollar should go to ICE, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem must be impeached, and we need an immediate, drastic, and transparent overhaul of ICE. Every single one of Trump’s ICE officials, from the very bottom to the very top, including senior leadership like Noem, must face justice for crimes they commit. Donald Trump needs to get ICE out of Minneapolis and American cities where they’re causing damage and harm.
It’s time for accountability.
Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, the DHS and ICE have ignored the commonsense guidance of local leaders and instead pursued lawless tactics that have escalated fear and chaos.
Public safety isn’t a place for partisan games.
When we empower federal agencies, we must do so with the understanding that they will uphold the law with respect and restraint – not wield authority in dangerous ways that make law‑abiding residents feel unsafe in their own neighborhoods.
Across Michigan, folks tell me the same thing: They want communities where kids can walk to school without worry, where families can thrive without fear of violent federal intervention, and where law enforcement officers are accountable to the people they serve.
That’s what genuine public safety looks like.
When Noem allows ICE to operate without transparency and when calls for oversight and reform go unanswered, we lose something essential: trust. And once trust is lost, it’s extremely difficult to rebuild.
That’s why ICE doesn’t need a $75 billion slush fund, why Secretary Noem must be impeached and why we need an immediate, drastic, and transparent overhaul of ICE.
