Hi John, it's Carly, Creative Organizer with Sunrise.

You may have seen Sunrise Movement taking action against Hilton Hotels for housing ICE officers and wondered why a youth climate movement is getting involved in this fight.

The short answer is this: corporate greed.

As a youth climate movement, we know what it looks like when corporations choose profit over human life. We see it in fossil fuel companies driving climate disasters. We see it in corporations supporting war and genocide. And now we are seeing it when hotel chains knowingly house ICE, an agency that is terrorizing our neighbors and escalating violence in our cities, because it is profitable to do so.

We're up against some of the richest, most powerful people on the planet, and we need your support. Can you chip in $25 today to power our youth movement? [[link removed]]

A longer answer is that these issues are deeply connected.

So many refugees and immigrants to America are here because climate change is making life impossible where they were born, thanks to escalating famines and droughts and natural disasters, but also thanks to the constant cycle of American intervention in their governments over oil.

But when it comes down to it, there’s one critical reason. To democratically win the policy we need to stop climate catastrophe, we need to actually live in a democracy.

As Sunrise Executive Director Aru Shiney-Ajay said in an interview with The Intercept last October, “There is no serious way to think about stopping the climate crisis under a fascist government. The path to climate lies through getting rid of the authoritarian government we’re in.”

That fascist government is hitting close to home. Aru and many other Sunrise Movement leaders live in Minneapolis, and in other cities ICE is targeting, and we can see ICE being tested as Trump’s personal gestapo. That is why young people with Sunrise are stepping up. We are organizing, training, and taking real action to force corporations like Hilton to choose a side.

But this work takes resources.

If you believe in a future free from climate disaster, free from state violence, and free from corporate greed, I am asking you to donate today. Your contribution helps us train young organizers, support bold actions, cover legal costs, and keep building the power we need to win. [[link removed]]
This fight is bigger than one hotel chain. It is about whether corporations get to profit from violence or whether people come together to stop them.

Thank you for being a part of this,

Carly
