Secretary of State Nelson Reminds Texans Feb. 2 is the Last Day to Register for the March 3 Primary Election |

AUSTIN — The deadline to register for the March 3 Primary Election is Monday, Feb. 2. During the primaries, Texans have the opportunity to vote for candidates to represent the Republican or Democratic parties in the November 2026 election.
“The deadline to register in time for the primary election is quickly approaching,” said Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson. “If you have not already registered, or you are unsure of your registration status, now is the time act.”
To be eligible to vote in Texas, you must be:
- A United States citizen
- A resident of the county where you are registered
- At least 18 years old on Election Day
Registration forms are available at VoteTexas.gov. A voter will need to print, sign and mail their application. Texans who have recently changed their name or moved can update their voter registration online through Texas.gov.
Applications must be postmarked or delivered by Feb. 2 to be effective for the March 3 Primary Election. Voters are encouraged to mail applications as soon as possible. Under guidance from the United States Postal Service, mail may not be postmarked until it reaches a processing center, which may not be on the same day it is mailed. Customers can ensure that a postmark for that day is applied to the application by visiting a USPS retail location and requesting a manual postmark.
Other key election dates include:
-
Early voting in person runs from Feb. 17-27.
-
Applications to vote by mail must be received by your county’s early voting clerk by Feb. 20.
-
Election Day is March 3.
