Eagle Forum Applauds U.S. Withdrawal from WHO
Eagle Forum celebrates the United States withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO) on January 22, 2026. Under the terms of the agreement signed when the U.S. joined the WHO, the United States must give the WHO one year’s notice before the exit becomes official. President Trump gave the notice in January 2025.

Eagle Forum President Kris Ullman reacted, “We applaud the Trump Administration for keeping their promise to get the U.S. out of the WHO. This action will save billions of taxpayer dollars annually and reaffirm our national sovereignty, protecting Americans from the onerous overreach of unelected bureaucrats.”

In a joint statement, Secretary of State Rubio and HHS Secretary Kennedy stated, “The WHO abandoned its core mission and acted repeatedly against the interests of the United States. Although the United States was a founding member and the WHO’s largest financial contributor, the organization pursued a politicized, bureaucratic agenda driven by nations hostile to American interests.”

“Secretaries Rubio and Kennedy are correct,” Ullman continued. “The WHO poses an ongoing threat to our sovereignty and freedom.  They are still working on a new version of the Pandemic Treaty to cement all the bad policies they advocated for during the COVID-19 pandemic. The WHO has taken no responsibility for their failures — such as covering up Chinese involvement in the creation of the virus, encouraging lockdowns, and praising mask and vaccine mandates.”

“In addition, they call abortion a ‘human right’ and so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ an essential health intervention for those with gender dysphoria. They want to regulate energy availability to combat ‘climate change’ and support the dangerous ‘One Health’ ideology that considers plants and animals equal to human beings. These radical positions of international busybodies go against American values. We are grateful to the Trump Administration for their strong stance against global governance and in favor of personal and national sovereignty.”

“For years, Eagle Forum has advocated for getting the US out of the WHO. With our allies in the Sovereignty Coalition, we have shown what can be accomplished when people stand up for their freedoms and work together to influence leaders to do the right thing.  Our work on this issue is not over, however. Congress needs to pass the WHO Withdrawal Act (H.R. 54) that will permanently repeal the law that authorized the United States entry into the WHO. This would ensure that no future President can reverse the Trump Administration’s removal and rejoin the WHO without Congress’s approval,” Ullman concluded.
