Statement on Continued ICE Violence in Minnesota
|
As we in Pennsylvania watch the bravery and commitment of the people of Minnesota to stand up for American liberties and the rights of their neighbors, I’m reminded that the intent of government and its agencies is to work for The People, not against us. The attempts in Minnesota by federal agents to escalate, intimidate, and terrorize residents are failures of duty. We have an expectation that those employed at every level of government will hold themselves to the highest standards. ICE is far short of the mark. I also stand in solidarity with the many local and state law enforcement officials in Minnesota who are working to investigate the incidents involving federal agents - whether high or lower profile - that seem now to be regular occurrences in their state. These investigations, cooperatively between agencies, have been the norm -- until now. And that is our obligation to The People. “Equal Justice Under Law” is the standard we expect and deserve. That phrase applies to every resident, and none more so than those who are empowered by the government. My heart is with the families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, as well as with every Minnesotan—from residents to religious leaders to community organizers to others standing on the correct side of justice. Here in Pennsylvania, I will continue to work alongside my colleagues in the House, with local municipalities and with Governor Shapiro to make sure these egregious violations of our basic constitutional rights don’t continue to expand. This doesn’t end well for our nation, for any of us, unless we are all Minnesotans.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day – January 27
|
On January 27, we recognized International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Six million Jewish people and millions of other specifically targeted groups were murdered during the atrocity that was the Holocaust.
It is our promise to remember them, condemn hate and the attempt to distort history, share the stories of the survivors and NEVER forget this horrific mark on our world’s history.

Recent/Upcoming Observances
|
Sunday marks the beginning of February and the start of Black History Month! This is a time where we celebrate Black history, the achievements, the leaders and pioneers, the stories and the efforts that helped shape America as we know it.
The 2026 theme for Black History Month is “A Century of Black History Commemorations.” This encourages each of us to reflect on the 100 years of national efforts devoted to commemorating Black history, which was initiated by Dr. Carter G. Woodson as a week-long celebration in February 1926, and eventually turned into the month-long recognition in 1976.
There are tons of events celebrating Black History Month that are happening right here in Montgomery County throughout the entire month of February! Click here for details.
