We’ll hear directly from three reporters on the front lines in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Portland, Oregon: L.A. Taco’s Memo Torres, Block Club Chicago’s Francia García Hernández, and independent journalist Kevin Foster. They’ll discuss what it takes to report on immigration raids, protests, detentions, and government secrecy when the stakes are this high. They’ll share hard-earned lessons on safety, sourcing, verification, and earning trust in communities under threat.
This conversation is hosted by Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF), where we defend and empower public-interest journalism, especially when it’s local and telling stories of those most marginalized. Local and independent reporters are carrying an enormous burden with too few resources. Showing up for them matters.
If you care about truth, accountability, and the people risking everything to inform the public, this discussion is for you. And if you’re able, I hope you’ll also consider supporting this work at freedom.press/donate. It’s how we keep journalists protected and the public informed.
