Langley Park is a vibrant community in Prince George’s County where you can buy homemade pupusas, Indian Saris, and real shea butter. The low-income, majority-Latinx neighborhood has also been ravaged by the novel coronavirus—at a rate that’s disproportionate to other communities across the state.

Ward 8 residents say it’s time to broaden our definition of safe streets

On May 31, last year, two vigils were held back to back on Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in Congress Heights. One memorialized the victims of gun violence, and the other, people killed by drivers. Both were organized by people who want the District to make streets safer, especially east of the Anacostia where residents are disproportionately affected by both kinds of violence.

Advocates call for MD General Assembly to tackle police brutality

People traveling from 27 states into DC will need to self-quarantine

Twenty-seven states have been deemed “high-risk” by DC Health, and require those traveling from those states to self-quarantine for two weeks. The District defines high-risk states as “those where the seven-day moving average of daily new COVID-19 cases is 10 or more per 100,000 people.”  (Nathan Diller / WAMU)

MoCo Council pushes for resolution to recognize Indigenous people

The House passes a bill to create a museum honoring Latinx community

A bill was passed Monday by the US House of Representatives, to create a new Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino. If the bill passes, a feasability study will be the next step.
