John,

It's Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. Arizona Senate Republicans just introduced a resolution calling on me to resign.

Their reason? I criticized ICE's tactics and warned that masked agents entering homes without warrants could create a ‘combustible’ and dangerous situation.

Let me be absolutely clear: I will not be deterred from speaking out or criticizing the Trump administration for its ongoing abuses of power and its trashing of our sacred Constitution.

Senate President Warren Petersen — one of my opponents in the AG race — is leading this effort. He claims I'm being "reckless" by speaking the truth about what's happening in Arizona.

Here's what I actually said:

Arizonans do not want masked agents entering their homes without warrants. It is un-American and threatens the rights and safety of everyone in our state.

ICE has killed two Americans this month: Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti. ICE agents pepper-sprayed protestors from a moving vehicle in Scottsdale and pepper-sprayed U.S. Representative Adelita Grijalva in Tucson. ICE's behavior is destroying the public's trust in law enforcement and putting every American, including local law enforcement, in danger.

And I launched a new website [ [link removed] ] for Arizonans to report and upload evidence of potential misconduct by ICE agents operating in our state.

So yes, Warren Petersen and his Republican colleagues want me to resign for doing my job.

They want me to stop criticizing Trump's abuses of power. They want me to stop defending the Constitution. They want me to stop standing up for Arizonans' rights.

Here's my response: No way.

I took an oath to uphold the Constitution. I take that oath seriously with every ounce of my being.

And I will not accept the hypocrisy from Republican legislators who have twisted my words but remained silent as Americans are shot by ICE and after Donald Trump pardoned the rioters who assaulted and beat Capitol police officers on January 6th.

The danger to law enforcement is the very thing I want to avoid in Arizona. That's why I'm speaking out about ICE's increasingly chaotic and dangerous activity.

Warren Petersen thinks the Attorney General should be ‘grateful’ for what ICE is doing and stay quiet when the Trump administration violates the Constitution. I think the Attorney General should fight back.

This is the choice Arizona faces in November: someone who will stand up to Trump's abuses, or someone who will look the other way.

Can you chip in today to show Warren Petersen and his Republican colleagues that I'm not resigning — and that Arizonans support an Attorney General who defends their rights? [ [link removed] ]

As long as I am Arizona's Attorney General, I will never waver in my defense of the United States Constitution and the rights it guarantees the people of this great nation.

They can call for my resignation all they want. I'm staying in this fight.

Thanks for having my back,

- Kris
