Subject: what is mutual aid? our training series answers that and more this tuesday
To: [email protected]

Hey John,

Mutual aid has always been a core part of young people’s protest — whether it’s through funding abortions, crowdfunding for gender-affirming care, or coordinating supply drives for expectant parents. But, what exactly is mutual aid, and how do you start a mutual aid project in your community?

RSVP here to join Advocates for Youth, Freedom Fighters DC, and the team behind the Mutual Aid Fund for Black LGBTQ+ Youth to learn about the history and grounding ethics of mutual aid. The event kicks off on Zoom this Tuesday, July 28, at 6 PM Eastern.

Earlier this month, my partner, Amirio, and I used the $1,000 we received from Bumble to jumpstart a mutual aid fund for Black LGBTQ+ Youth. In under two weeks, our communities pooled together nearly $20,000 to send directly to Black LGBTQ+ youth through Venmo and Cash App.

Now, we’re teaming up with Savanna Touré, the co-founder of Freedom Fighters DC and manager of FFDC’s Mutual Aid Network, to help grow the fund. We’ve already learned so much from Savanna, Advocates youth activists, and organizers leading mutual aid efforts across the country. We can’t wait to share the knowledge!

We’ll discuss the history and politics of mutual aid, as well as best practices and lessons we’ve learned along the way. We’d love to use this space to uplift ongoing mutual aid efforts across the country, so register here today.

Hope to see you there!
