Hey John,
People around the country are rising up and increasingly demanding that police departments be partially or completely defunded. At this Saturday Meetup, we will learn more about what defunding the police means, why people are calling for it, and how it can help everyday people and activists alike. Join our Meetup: Defunding the Police Could Change Everything this Saturday, August 1st, at 11 AM. For the Zoom link information, see the details on the event page.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all will be taking place online, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Tuesday, July 28th, 6 PM: Community Discussion on White Privilege, Allyship, & Antiracism - Join us for an online community discussion on what animal rights activists who are white can do to fight racism. We joined this community because we believe in animal liberation and that it is important for us all to also actively strive towards anti-racist. This will be an open discussion facilitated by Kitty Jones. Please come with an open mind and be prepared to discuss white supremacy (domination), white privilege, what it means to be an ally, police terror, defunding the police, etc. This online discussion is specifically for white animal rights activists, however it is not exclusive and others are welcome to join and share their ideas as well. Our goal is to provide a space for white people in the community to try to break down and learn more about what privilege and white dominations is and why it is so harmful. Again, please come with an open mind and empathy in your heart. See the event page for details on how to obtain the Zoom link.
- Friday, July 31st, 5 PM: Solidarity Speaker: How you can help the houseless with Myriad - We are proud to host a presentation by Myriad Outreach Project (M.O.P.)! M.O.P. is in its 4th year of operation and has fed over 4,033 people in San Francisco, Oakland, and Antioch area through our community food drive. Our core group of volunteers consists of family, friends, acquaintances, strangers, clergy, curious bystanders, classmates, workmates, everyone! Myriad means one of many, and that's how many people it takes to push forward change. We are an organic grassroots collective that's diving into organizing head first and learning as we grow. We are moving towards a new non-profit role and now securing tax ID status. Theory without action means nothing, so it's imperative that we try to build solidarity intersectionality and unite underclass. This is a part of our Solidarity Speaker series that features activists and organizers from various local organizations helping to make the world a better place! Through these speaker events we aim to build more solidarity between organizations and causes, educate our community about different issues and groups, and expose other groups to the work we are doing. See the event page for details on how to obtain the Zoom link.
