John, the Trump-Vance regime has unleashed evil into our communities. 

Over the weekend, we witnessed Alex Pretti killed by masked agents in Minneapolis – execution style – on video. Another tragedy. Another life lost.

The reality is that the same President who led a violent insurrection and called it a “peaceful protest” is now using his power to unleash brutality and violence against actual peaceful protesters.

To see this kind of state violence is not only to witness the killing of a human being, but also the spiraling spiritual death of a nation. It is clear that we are losing our humanity.

Our country is better than this. We are better than this.

Today, I visited the memorial for Alex Pretti in Minneapolis and met with local faith leaders to pray for his loved ones, his community, and the soul of our country. But we all have to pray in this moment – not only with our lips, but also with our feet.

That's why, as a United States Senator, I plan to vote against funding for ICE this week and continue to use every tool at my disposal to hold immigration enforcement officials accountable. In this defining moment for our nation, you can count on me to fight with everything I have for justice and our fundamental freedoms as Americans. That is my promise to you – now and always.
