$740 billion. That’s the Pentagon’s base budget, and it represents higher military spending than the next 11 nations combined.

And last week, Chris Coons sided with Republicans to vote down an amendment that would have cut 10% from this budget.

The Sanders-Lee-Pocan Amendment would have put this $74 billion in savings toward healthcare, housing, childcare, and education programs.

With $74 billion, we could end homelessness in America 3x over. Or we could pay salary increases of 50% to every public school teacher. Or we could provide $300 per month in federal funding for childcare for every child under 5.

The problems that we face in this country aren’t a question of resources, they’re a question of priorities.

Here are my priorities:

• Ensuring that we guarantee every person comprehensive healthcare through Medicare for All.
  
  
• Divesting from fossil fuels, repairing the damage done to Black and brown communities, and rebuilding our infrastructure through a Green New Deal.
  
  
• Ending homelessness by building more public housing stock, passing a federal Tenants’ Bill of Rights, and cutting the massive tax break we give to luxury developers.
