Donald Trump just spoke in Clive.

As I watched the coverage I kept thinking about the conversations I’ve been having at doors across this district. Families are worried about the cost of groceries and heating their homes. Seniors are anxious about health care. Parents just want to know someone in Washington is actually listening, not spouting hateful rhetoric or empty promises.

Those voices are why I’m running.

Trump, national Republicans, and outside groups can all grab headlines and pour money into this race, but they can’t replace the work of showing up, hearing them, and earning trust one conversation at a time. That’s the kind of campaign I’m committed to running, even when it’s hard.

Here’s the truth: Trump has already endorsed Zach Nunn, and today’s visit made clear how determined national Republicans are to hold onto this seat. They’re going to spend heavily to attack me. They are already testing out their negative messages.

The only way we counter that is by building a strong, people-powered campaign right here in Iowa.
