John,
The Senate will vote this week on whether to send $65 billion more U.S. taxpayer dollars to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—which includes ICE and Border Patrol.
This weekend, immigration agents killed another person in Minneapolis.
A VA nurse, Alex Pretti came to help a woman who’d been hurt by the agents. His last words were, “Are you OK?” After that, Border Patrol agents surrounded him, tear-gassed him and tackled him to the ground, beat him, then shot him 10 times—executing him in the street.
Alex should be alive. ICE needs to get out of our neighborhoods now!
The Senate must stop this madness, including by filibustering and voting no on any DHS funding.
Sign the petition to demand the Senate block funding for ICE, Border Patrol, and the Department of Homeland Security. No more terrorizing our communities!
Last week, I voted NO on the DHS/ICE funding bill, but seven of my Democratic colleagues in the House of Representatives voted with Republicans so it could pass the House. Then it moved to the Senate.
Right before last week’s vote, ICE officers kidnapped 5-year-old Liam Ramos and his father, sending them to a notorious facility in Texas. In protest, hundreds of children and families at that detention center joined together chanting “Libertad,” meaning freedom.
Already in 2026, at least 6 people have died in ICE custody. This includes Geraldo Lunas Campos, a father in his mid-50s who was killed by an ICE officer, according to witnesses. A recent ACLU report revealed this and reports of brutal sexual abuse of detainees.
This agency cannot be reformed; it must be abolished.
But no matter who’s in power, Congress has continued to vote for more ICE funding year after year. It needs to stop.
Lawmakers need to listen to the people, who are rising up in protest. Polls show that a plurality of Americans want to see ICE abolished—including 77% of Democratic voters.
Thanks to people power, many Senate Democrats have said they’ll vote against funding for the Department of Homeland Security (including funding for Border Patrol and ICE). If they stay unified, they can block the bill. But this isn't guaranteed: Our Senators need to hear from us.
Please take the first step: Sign on to demand the Senate vote no on funding for DHS, ICE, or Border Patrol—and act to abolish ICE, hold these agencies accountable, and free people from ICE and Border Patrol detention.
Together we will continue standing up for freedom, for our neighbors, and for our shared humanity.
In solidarity,
Rashida
