Emergency Briefing: Preparing State Leaders for Escalating ICE Actions
[link removed]

Across the country, state legislators are facing a dangerous escalation in ICE enforcement tactics. In Minnesota, lawmakers are responding to aggressive operations that have included family separations, the detention of very ([link removed]) young ([link removed]) children, and the lethal use of force ([link removed]) . And this playbook is already spreading ([link removed]) to other states.

SiX is hosting an emergency briefing for state legislators and staff on Jan 30th to share what Minnesota lawmakers are learning in real time and how states can prepare now to protect their communities.

Sign On: State Legislators’ Statement in Support of the People of Minnesota

State legislators across the country are uniting to say that what is happening in Minnesota, and spreading nationwide, is unacceptable and unconscionable. More than 300 legislators from 27 states ([link removed]) have already signed the State Legislators’ Statement in Support of the People of Minnesota, led by Vote Run Lead Action.

For a nation founded on freedom, liberty, and basic human rights, the use of armed, masked federal agents engaging in abductions, due process violations, and lethal force represents a dangerous rupture from our democratic values. We cannot normalize this moment, and we cannot be silent.

This statement demands accountability, transparency, and an end to federal overreach. Deadline to sign: today, Tuesday, January 27, at 6:00 pm ET. Please consider sharing with your caucus and colleagues across states.

Sign On to Protect Child Care Funding
[link removed]

State lawmakers are taking action to respond to the Trump administration’s escalating attacks on child care. Following an emergency briefing convened by SiX, the National Women’s Law Center, and the Child Care For Every Family Network, legislators across the country are organizing to push back.

Join a state legislator sign-on letter ([link removed]) urging Congress to demand the immediate release of critical child care funding that families and providers rely on. These funds are essential to keeping care affordable, safe, and accessible—and to ensuring providers can keep their doors open.

Please add your name by end of day on February 2 and share with supportive colleagues in your state.

SiX and the National Women’s Law Center have also launched a living toolkit with policy guidance ([link removed]) , messaging, and actions to support state responses.

States Push Back on Dangerous Bayer Pesticide Immunity Bills
[link removed]

For the third year in a row, Bayer and its allies are pushing state-level pesticide immunity bills designed to block people from holding chemical manufacturers accountable for harms linked to cancer, Parkinson’s disease, infertility, and birth defects. Often called the “Bayer bill” or “failure-to-warn” bill, this language is frequently introduced with identical text across states and moves quickly, often under the radar.

In 2025, Iowa lawmakers defeated the bill ([link removed]) for a second consecutive year. That victory was driven by rural listening sessions that elevated farmers’ and community members’ health concerns and highlighted Iowa’s high cancer rates. These sessions helped shift the debate away from industry talking points and toward real-world impacts.

This push comes as the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear Durnell v. Monsanto ([link removed]) , a case that could weaken a long-standing precedent allowing states and individuals to bring failure-to-warn claims. Together, these legal and legislative strategies threaten states’ ability to protect public health.

In 2026, these bills are expected to be introduced in at least a dozen states. SiX is organizing legislators now to stay alert, share intelligence, and prepare coordinated responses.

Upcoming Briefings and Tools for State Leaders
[link removed]

SiX continues to host strategic briefings and share tools to help state leaders respond to coordinated, well-funded attacks on vulnerable communities.

On February 13 at 1:00 pm ET / 10:00 am PT, join SiX and the National Homelessness Law Center for a conversation on how states can fight back against the criminalization of people experiencing homelessness. We’ll break down the billionaire-backed interests behind these policies, share lessons from state campaigns, and discuss messaging, policy strategies, and organizing partnerships that work.

Legislators, staff, and partners are encouraged to attend and share with their networks.

Messaging Training: Winning on Taxes and the Economy
[link removed]

How states talk about taxes and the economy matters, especially as opponents continue to push the misleading “wealth flight” myth.

On February 26 at 1:00 pm ET / 10:00 am PT, SiX and the State Revenue Alliance are hosting a messaging training for legislators, staff, and advocates focused on delivering messages that win. This session will cover tested messaging strategies, trusted research, and real-world examples from state leaders who are successfully shifting the narrative.

If you are working on tax policy, revenue, or economic justice, this training will equip you with tools to communicate clearly and confidently.
