Friend,
Greg Bovino may be heading into early retirement, and reports indicate some agents may be leaving Minnesota.
This did not happen on its own. It is the result of sustained resistance by thousands of people who refused to stay silent and made their opposition impossible to ignore. What Renee Good and Alex Pretti stood for—and what the regime killed them for—is part of what brought us to this moment. Greg Bovino, who has been the public face of Trump’s assault on Minneapolis, has been shown to be vulnerable. That matters.
But this moment presents a real choice.
The attacks on immigrants we are witnessing were never the work of one individual. They are central to the entire Trump fascist program. That means this cannot end with one figure being pushed aside. The problem is the whole regime, and the solution must be driving them from power. At the same time, what people have accomplished here should help many see their own collective power more clearly.
There is also a danger we need to be honest about. In moments like this, it is easy for people to settle for minimal concessions and begin disengaging, hoping for a return to “normal.” Small retreats by the regime can create the illusion that the danger has passed. History shows us that this is a serious mistake.
When a fascist regime shows weakness, the response must be to intensify—not retreat. That means growing our numbers, deepening our commitment, and expanding sustained, nonviolent action aimed at driving the entire regime from power.
For over a decade, Refuse Fascism has worked to make clear what we are up against: a 21st-century, nuclear-armed American fascism, advancing an agenda of white supremacy, xenophobia, and patriarchy. Understanding this clearly is essential if we are going to defeat it.
Whether it is Bovino, Noem, Homan, or others carrying out this program, the reality remains the same.
The whole Trump fascist regime must go.
The resistance of the past few weeks should give us confidence—but also clarity. The question before us is clear: Will we step back, or will we build forward—more walkouts, more protests, more organized resistance—until this regime is removed from power?
That decision belongs to all of us.
