John,
Federal agents are executing Americans in the streets. None of us are safe in a police state. And I don’t say that to be provocative, I say it because families are burying loved ones, neighbors are watching armed agents storm their communities, and people who step in to protect each other are being met with deadly force by the federal government.
That is what happened when ICE murdered Alex Pretti. Alex was supporting his community and protecting his neighbors when federal agents took his life. And instead of accountability, we are already seeing officials try to twist the story and tell us not to believe what we saw with our own eyes. I refuse to accept that. Our communities deserve the truth, and they deserve justice.
They want us to accept this as normal. They want us to believe this is about “law and order,” when what we are witnessing is state violence: raids that rip families apart, surveillance in our neighborhoods, and deadly force used against people who are trying to keep each other safe.
That’s why I said it plainly, and I will keep saying it plainly: ABOLISH ICE!
Not reform around the edges. Not more funding and stronger weapons. End the terror. End the raids. End the unchecked authority that is being used against working-class people, immigrants, and anyone who dares to stand up for their neighbors.
They may have badges, budgets, and an administration willing to lie for them. But we have each other, we have our communities, and we have a movement they can never silence.
I will always stand with the people — not with systems that brutalize us and then try to erase the harm they cause. Thank you for standing with me, and more importantly, for standing with our neighbors who deserve to live without fear of their own government.
In solidarity and struggle,
Summer Lee
