JOHN,
It was never about protecting our children.
When properly staffed and led by people who took students seriously, the
Department of Education held schools and universities accountable for
mishandling sexual assault and harassment. It used the full weight of federal
law to protect students’ civil rights.
But after massive layoffs last March, that work has nearly stopped. Since
then, the Department of Education has openedfewer than 10 sexual violence
investigations nationwide.
Instead, this administration has redirected its attention elsewhere —
launching dozens of Title IX investigations targeting schools for accommodating
transgender students and athletes.
We’re launching a petition demanding that the Department of Education resume
serious enforcement of Title IX protections for survivors of sexual violence.

Sexual assault hasn’t gone away. Survivors haven’t stopped coming forward.
What’s disappeared is enforcement.
While survivors wait years for answers and complaints pile up unanswered, the
Department is using civil rights law to wage political attacks on students
instead of protecting them from harm.
Will you add your name to demand real protections for students — not political
distractions?
