Like you, we’re watching with horror as our government continues its shameless attacks on immigrants and allies across the country. The ongoing and brutal violence committed by ICE in Minnesota and across the country highlight the many ways that the federal government values power over people.

We are keenly aware that these attacks on immigrants mirror the attacks on our homeless neighbors, including the dehumanizing rhetoric and the desire to force people into detention camps. Our homeless neighbors and our immigrant neighbors share this struggle. We must come together in solidarity to fight for a country where everybody, regardless of what they look like, where they are from, who they love, or what they do, has a safe place to call home.

This Thursday, the 29th, Housing Not Handcuffs is hosting a National Organizing Call to launch a new campaign: No Federal Funds for Homeless Detention Camps. We’re pleased to share that Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (IL-03) and Congressman Maxwell Frost (FL-10) will be able to join us.

Utah’s Governor, inspired by Trump’s attack on homeless people, is pushing to create a 1,300-bed homeless detention camp. We’ve seen this before — and it never ends well. Detention camps and forced treatment are not solutions to homelessness. Housing and healthcare are.
