Trump’s federal agents shot and killed another person in Minnesota: Alex
Pretti, an ICU nurse who served veterans in his community.

When agents pushed a woman to the ground right next to him, he tried to
help her up. His last words were “Are you okay?” And he was shot.

The shootings have to stop. The cover-ups have to stop. The bankrolling of
this violence has to stop. We can all see with our own eyes what ICE is
doing to our neighbors. Congress can — and must — step up.

There’s a Department of Homeland Security funding bill heading to the
Senate this week, and I’m calling on every single Senator — Republicans
and Democrats — to oppose it.

We are now in a position to slam the brakes and put some serious
conditions on any money that ICE gets — including money approved earlier
that they are still spending.

I want to be clear: If it were up to me, we would completely overhaul ICE,
stop shoveling money into their budget, strip the agency down to its studs
and end their abuses altogether. Hard stop. And I’m going to keep fighting
for that.

But in the short-term, this is one of the best options we’ve got to
condition any funding with specific demands that would have an immediate
impact.

Even if you assume your Senators are already voting no, call them to make
your expectations clear and thank them.

Even if you assume your Senators would never vote no, call them to make
sure they hear from you as a constituent and make your demands clear.

We have a chance to use the upcoming funding bill to stop ICE from
terrorizing our communities and putting lives at risk. It’s time for the
Senate to step up, put some basic controls in place, and stop the
violence.
