Gov. Reynolds introduces bill to condemn antisemitism in Iowa schools, colleges and universities
DES MOINES— Today, Governor Kim Reynolds introduced legislation to the Iowa House and Senate to codify an executive order condemning antisemitism in Iowa’s K-12 public schools, community colleges, and state universities.
The Governor’s bill would require an annual report of antisemitic actions from all community colleges, state universities, and public K-12 schools. The report must also include the findings and outcomes of any investigations.
“Antisemitism has no place in Iowa,” Governor Reynolds said. “This proposal sends a message that Iowans fully support our Jewish community, and we will not tolerate antisemitism of any kind.”
This proposal builds on Gov. Reynolds’ 13th executive order signed on June 30, 2025. The order directed the Iowa Board of Regents to assist and fully cooperate with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights to ensure state universities fulfill their obligations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to protect Jewish students. In November 2025, Iowa’s three state universities reported 10 formal complaints of antisemitism and 34 informal complaints.
