*Community Update on ICE from Rep. Momanyi-Hiltsley *
Dear Neighbors,
Over the weekend, I stood with the Minneapolis Chapter of the NAACP and community leaders to speak out about the killing of Alex Pretti on Saturday, an ICU nurse, a caregiver, and a man who spent his life helping others. What happened to him should never have happened, and his death has shaken so many of us.

Brooklyn Park Vigil for Alex Pretti
Last week, a five-year-old in Columbia Heights was used as bait to lure family out of his home. ICE then kidnapped the child and flew him to Texas, where his family has not been able to learn more about his wellbeing or what happens next.
Renee Good should still be here today. She was a devoted mother, a compassionate neighbor, and a person whose life mattered deeply. Her killing earlier this month is both heartbreaking and infuriating. Now, the federal government is blocking Minnesota law enforcement from investigating these slayings, denying standard collaboration that is essential when a community has been so profoundly disrupted.
We are coming together because Minnesota deserves to be part of these investigations. Transparency matters. Fairness matters. Justice matters.

Standing in solidarity with Minnesotans, honoring the life of Renee Good.
What is happening in Minnesota is not only heartbreaking, but unconstitutional, inhumane, and cruel. The reckless deployment of thousands of unidentified, masked and armed ICE and border patrol agents hunting down our neighbors is harming our communities. None of ‘Operation Metro Surge’ is about public safety - in fact, ICE is destabilizing our communities and making us all less safe. Whether it’s speeding down a one way the wrong way [ [link removed] ], abandoning children [ [link removed] ], kneeling on pregnant women [ [link removed] ], or pushing and handcuffing educators and administrators [ [link removed] ], ICE is making everyday living dangerous for all of us.

*Community Support and Resources*
I’m also building a trusted resource list to support families during this difficult time (food, immigration legal help, rental assistance, towing for vehicles left after ICE detentions, and more). If you can help, please complete the Community Resource List form [ [link removed] ]. This helps us respond quickly when families need support.
Please also feel free to check out Second Harvest Heartland’s website [ [link removed] ] to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Thank You
I am truly thankful and humbled by the strong turnout and engagement at our recent Immigration Safety community conversation.
It’s abundantly clear that our community continues to need more accessible, trusted information around ICE & immigration safety. Because of that, this won’t be our last conversation! Please stay tuned as we plan to host more forums.
Deep gratitude to our speakers, community partners, and a special thank you to Abe Kamara, Denise Butler and the Inner Circle Podcast team for hosting and amplifying this important dialogue. If you missed the conversation or want to rewatch, you are able to do so on:

Let me end with this: I am deeply moved by the story of Tippy Amundson and Heather Zemien, two Minnesotans from Brooklyn Park who, even while detained, stepped up in a moment of crisis to help an ICE agent who was having a seizure.
It’s a powerful reminder that compassion, humanity, and courage aren’t just ideals, they’re actions that define who we are as a community. That spirit of choosing love over hate and courage over fear is at the heart of what it means to be Minnesota strong. In times of challenge, we don’t turn away from our neighbors; we stand together, we help one another, and we lift each other up.
I am so proud and honored to be the representative for people like Tippy and Heather individuals who exemplify the very best of our state’s values and remind us that humanity always matters. You can read more about their story from the Star Tribune by clicking on the article link here [ [link removed] ].

Let’s continue looking out for each other. Let’s continue doing something because we are stronger together, and that’s what makes us truly Minnesota strong.
