Since our founding in the wake of the 2016 election, we have been laser-focused on one goal: winning progressive power in state legislatures.

Today, I am proud to share the next chapter of that work with you.

Sister District is transforming into States Win.

This new name reflects what we have learned over nearly a decade of organizing: winning in the states is essential to protecting our communities, advancing policy, and building progress that lives beyond any single election cycle. 

If this strategy resonates with you, I hope you’ll help us mark this moment by investing today and making our launch as States Win as strong as possible.

In the Trump era, fear is often used to make us feel powerless and convince us that change is out of reach. Yet Democratic-held state legislatures continue to prove otherwise by delivering real, tangible wins, including:

• Enacting universal child care
• Expanding protections for reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ communities
• Taking meaningful action on affordable housing
• Providing free school lunches for public school children
• Strengthening protections for immigrants and working families
• And advancing policies that help communities stay safe, healthy, and prosperous

John, we are the only grassroots organization in the country focused exclusively on transforming state legislatures nationwide so gains like these are possible.

To date, we have endorsed more than 250 candidates, reached nearly 8 million voters, raised over $8.1 million for state legislative candidates, and mobilized more than 100,000 volunteers.

As we step into this new phase, we’re doubling down on our mission. In 2026, we’ll be returning to states like Arizona, Georgia, Iowa,  Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. And, for the first time ever, States Win Action will be expanding its civic engagement work to Alaska and Tennessee.
