People Over Plastics! Join the Beyond Plastics Advocacy Day 2/9

📆 Monday, February 9 • 10:00 am – 4:00pm
📍 Legislative Office Building • 198 State Street, Albany, NY • Map

Join Beyond Plastics Brooklyn on Monday, February 9, in Albany to help pass the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (PRRIA) in the State Assembly. This landmark waste reduction bill will address the largest stream of waste going to landfills and incinerators: single-use packaging. It will make packaging safer by getting toxic chemicals out, make big brands pay to clean up their trash, and invest in robust and equitable reuse and recycling infrastructure. NO experience required – we’ll provide everything volunteers need to meet with their representatives! This is a fun day for all ages. FREE ROUNDTRIP BUSES from Manhattan. Lunch, coffee, tea, and snacks provided.

Low-income renters: Subscribe to community solar and save 20% on your Con Ed bill!

We’re looking for low-income households that would like access to solar energy. The Facing the Future workgroup has partnered with Solar One to promote community solar. Community solar subscribers get credit on their Con Ed bills for the electricity produced by solar arrays elsewhere. Are you in a low-income household or know someone who is? Here’s the information to get started in English and in Spanish. Spread the word!

Your Community Board needs you! Bring climate action to your local neighborhood

Want to make a difference in your own neighborhood? Become a member of your local Community Board and ensure that concerns about the impact of a heating climate and about climate solutions are part of the conversation. Community Boards bring the concerns of their neighborhoods to city agencies, elected officials, and other local leaders. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso has noted that few Community Boards focus on climate or environmental concerns and he is interested in appointing people who can express those concerns. Learn more here. Applications are due by 11pm on February 6, 2026.

Stop Data Centers Now! FW&W Campaign Launch 2/3

Tuesday, February 3 • 8:00 pm – virtual

The rapid expansion of data centers across the United States, driven by the AI and crypto boom, is one of the biggest environmental and social challenges of our generation. They are exponentially increasing demand for energy and fossil fuel pollution, while at the same time straining our water resources, polluting communities and raising electricity prices across the country. You will hear from Zephyr Teachout on corporate consolidation in Big Tech, and from Food & Water Watch’s research team, who will preview some new research on data centers. Register here to learn about this new campaign.

Hands Off NYC, and more locally, Indivisible Brooklyn are organizations that have responded to ICE’s gestapo tactics in NYC by leading trainings on Deportation Defense, creating neighborhood Signal groups to track ICE actions and organizing marches and rallies in support of the brave citizens of Minnesota. Check out their websites to learn more about the many ways you can get involved, protect our communities and prepare for an intensification of ICE actions in NYC.

Support the Sugar Maple Solar Project!

Governor Kathy Hochul and New York’s energy regulators are considering the Sugar Maple Solar Project, a 125-megawatt solar facility that includes 20 megawatts of energy storage capacity, proposed in the North Country. With New York 6 years behind on its 2030 climate targets, we need to scale up on clean energy projects quickly. Supporting Sugar Maple Solar will demonstrate that reliable clean energy is a priority for New Yorkers. These comments are open to all residents of New York State. Make your voice heard and support renewable energy by submitting a comment here – personalized comments are especially effective!

350Brooklyn is volunteer-powered. At the heart of these efforts are our campaigns and committees. Follow the links below for more information on how to join.

Arts, Ideas, and Events organizes special events and field trips; identifies topics and arranges speakers for 350Brooklyn member meetings; and creates art, props and costumes for rallies and parades. We welcome your ideas and talents. Email us at [email protected].

Climate Check Stories and Solutions is 350Brooklyn’s podcast. Each monthly episode breaks down the climate crisis through conversations with local climate activists and community organizers. We discuss individual climate stories and pinpoint policies and local actions that can lead us to a healthier climate and a more just society—from fighting pipelines to working with nature and everything in between. Email us at [email protected].

350BK Families is part of the Climate Families NYC coalition, which aims to make climate activism accessible to parents and families. Our activities bring children, youth, and their adults together to fight for a livable future in age appropriate ways. Email us at [email protected].

Facing the Future: Building Resilience to Climate in NYC is a series of talks, workshops, tours, and conversations about building resilience in NYC in the face of the climate crisis. Volunteers working on this series could play many roles: developing individual programs, finding speakers, securing venues, researching supporting material for web pages, leading sessions or breakout groups, promoting it on social media and traditional media. Email us at [email protected].

Legislation focuses on passing significant climate legislation in Albany and in Washington. We develop relationships with local officials, research key issues, and participate in tactics like rallies and phone relays. Email [email protected].

The Media Committee is 350Brooklyn's all-around in-house media team. We write copy, design graphics, run 350BK's social media channels and website, edit our biweekly community newsletter, and oversee creative initiatives like the new 350Brooklyn e-magazine Parts Per Million. Get in touch at [email protected].

Plastic Free works to eliminate plastic pollution and reduce reliance on single-use plastic products. We meet monthly via Zoom, and work on a variety of projects including legislative lobbying efforts, campaigns promoting going plastic free, and neighborhood efforts to reduce waste. Email us at [email protected].

Power Hour is a weekly session of phone-calling power. Each week we convene on Zoom to call, email, and tweet at our elected leaders about a different climate or environmental justice issue prioritized by 350BK and our allies. Power Hour is designed to be high impact, but low pressure and low commitment. Join us every week as a way to routinize your climate activism, or come only on weeks when you’re free.
