Dear Friend,
To say that there are a lot of scary things happening with artificial intelligence these days would be an understatement. Just in the last week alone, the news cycles have been exploding with horror stories.
It came out that 2025 was the worst year on record for AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Reports received by the Internet Watch Foundation saw a 26,362% increase from the previous year. Sixty-five percent of those reports were classified as “category A,” meaning they contained the most extreme content, such as rape and sexual torture.
Then there's the never-ending stream of news reports about Grok, xAI’s chatbot that allows users to digitally remove women’s clothing. The Center for Countering Digital Hate estimated that, within a period of only 11 days, Grok generated 3 million sexualized images, 23,000 of which depicted children. We were beyond heartbroken last week to learn that our treasured allies, Melinda Tankard Reist and Caitlin Roper of Collective Shout, had been victimized by Grok in retaliation for speaking out.
It’s more urgent than ever that we light a fire under legislators to take these harms seriously. Here's how you can help.
3 Things You Can Do
-
The DEFIANCE Act would give survivors of AI-generated image-based sexual abuse the ability to sue their exploiters. This important bill recently passed the Senate and is under consideration in the House. Tell your House Representatives to support the DEFIANCE Act!
-
The good women at Collective Shout are spearheading a campaign to get Grok removed from app stores. Please add your voice to theirs here.
-
The AI LEAD Act and the GUARD Act are complimentary solutions to the harms that A.I. chatbots pose to children. Learn more about them and take action here!
Thank you for getting behind this pressing cause! We are walking through frightening times, but together, we can change the course. By collectively raising our voice, we WILL build a better world!
Sincerely,
