They’re cutting unemployment to win brownie points.

Swing Left

Hey Swing Left,

Coronavirus cases are still surging in the U.S. Millions of Americans are out of work. And the Republican Senate just announced a coronavirus bill that not only fails to address those issues, but could push us further into crisis.

Benefits from the first round of coronavirus relief are set to run out this week, leaving millions of Americans in the lurch. House Democrats already passed a relief bill two months ago, but McConnell rejected it without holding a single hearing.

Now, after weeks of in-fighting, Senate Republicans finally revealed their bill—it’s unbelievably cruel. Instead of helping the families who need it most, they cut unemployment benefits to force people to “get back to work” in high-risk jobs while cases are surging. The bill also protects businesses from liability for endangering their employees during the pandemic.

Instead of getting the virus under control, McConnell and Senate Republicans are waging a war on unemployed Americans, and making folks choose between putting food on the table or their health. Republicans are risking American lives for a Fox News talking point, and we’re done with it.

Democrats need to flip just four seats to take control of the Senate, so we’re raising $1 million directly for candidates running in the eight most winnable races. Donate to the Senate Fund today—every dollar you give goes directly to our eight candidates in Georgia (two seats), Arizona, Montana, Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, and Colorado.
