Last night I read something that I can't stop thinking about. A parent in Minneapolis was sharing how her six-year-old daughter was practicing during recess what to do if ICE agents showed up at her school.

Her daughter wasn't talking about how she was pretending to be an astronaut or playing tag or hide and go seek with her friends. She was talking about what to do when a masked, armed federal agent showed up at her place of learning.

As the parent of a six-year-old in kindergarten, I was thinking to myself, " What the hell?"

I remember in elementary school in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, I was practicing fire drills and tornado drills, and that was scary enough — let alone having a masked, armed agent entering your school.

I can't imagine how scary that has to be for kids, for teachers, for parents and for that community.

We are seeing with our own eyes how these ICE agents are harassing, threatening, and even killing innocent Americans.

And at times it feels overwhelming. And that's the point, they want it to be overwhelming, but we have power. We have our voice, and we can take action. And a place to start is you can visit standwithminnesota.com. [standwithminnesota.com]

It's a place where locals on the ground are providing information about groups you can donate to or concrete ways you can help, like even writing a letter of encouragement to a volunteer in Minneapolis who's exhausted and who needs to hear your words.

I know that this isn't easy, but together we can send a clear message that the violence and fear we're seeing right now is not our country and this is not the future for our kids.

And together we can stand with our neighbors in Minnesota.
