John,
Today I was supposed to send you a message asking for your support ahead of our end-of-month fundraising deadline on Saturday, but after this weekend's events, that just doesn't feel right.
I am heartbroken by the events this weekend in Minnesota and the senseless killing of Alex Pretti. This tragedy is the consequence of dangerous policies that have put communities across the country at risk. It’s a dark time for our nation.
As neighbors in the Midwest, we are bound by shared principles of community, resilience, and common humanity. That’s who we are as Americans, but what we’ve witnessed occurring in communities across the country goes against those values.
This administration’s current approach to immigration enforcement is deeply concerning, which is why I opposed the DHS appropriations measure. It doesn’t do enough to respect our Constitutional protections and hold the Administration accountable for its actions.
The presence of unidentified federal enforcement officials conducting operations in our communities and questioning individuals without clear cause is un-American and violates our Constitution. We can and must enforce the law, while respecting the Constitution and the civil liberties that define us as a nation.
I will continue to fight in Congress for you, for transparency, accountability, and the fundamental rights we are all entitled to.
– Frank
