Right now it’s a very scary time in the state of Maine. ICE agents are on the ground here, terrorizing families and detaining people with no criminal record. We’ve seen students, corrections officers, health care workers and others arrested. People are afraid to leave their homes. Now more than ever we need our Members of Congress to stand up to this out-of-control administration and stop ICE. And right now there is an opportunity in the U.S. Senate.

Senator Susan Collins’ latest statement calling for more “training” for ICE while refusing to confront what’s actually happening in Maine, Minnesota, and across our country is not a serious response. At this moment, vague statements and half-measures aren’t leadership. She needs to vote NO on this DHS budget.
This is about accountability. This is about human decency. And I truly believe this is a pivotal moment for the future of our country. Congress has a responsibility to stop this president and his lawless administration that is violating basic constitutional rights, killing people on the streets, and creating fear in communities across the country.
Democrats may be in the minority in Washington, but the majority of Americans do not support what is happening in our country right now and we need Republican leaders to stand up and stop this. Arresting five-year-old children, executing American citizens in the streets, we all know ICE needs to be stopped, now. This is against everything Maine people believe in.
Republicans in Congress who have sat silently by and allowed this to go on must finally act. Congress must hold this president accountable now. Democrats are speaking out about this budget, we need Senator Collins to say no, too.
Please sign our petition urging Senator Collins to vote NO on funding DHS and ICE.
This is the moment for guts and brave leaders. The future of our democracy, our communities, and our basic sense of decency depend on it.
Thank you,
Hannah Pingree
