John Our Republican friends are fond of the old libertarian battle cry “Don’t Tread On Me”. You may have seen it on one or two bumper stickers over the past few years. It’s supposed to mean that, in the USA, we have individual liberties that the government can’t walk all over – that government can’t use its power to get between citizens and their civil liberties. Sometimes they might take this imagery and thinking a little too far – but there’s a point in there that we can all get behind. No citizen should fear their government. That’s why I’m co-sponsoring two pieces of legislation currently before the House: 1) to demand federal accountability in DHS and ICE enforcement and withholding appropriations until reforms are enacted, and 2) another piece of legislation prohibiting state dollars from being spent on immigration enforcement. |
