Friend,
“No war for oil.” You’ve rallied, you’ve chanted, you’ve demanded. In the ‘90s. In the ‘00s. If you’re like us, you’re sick and tired of demanding it, and outraged that we’re here again.
But right now is a crucial moment to demand it again. Because the Trump regime isn’t even pretending there is a high-minded rationale for its attack on Venezuela’s capital, and the kidnapping of its President earlier this month. Trump himself said the plan was to “get the oil flowing” in the aftermath of the attacks. And Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the regime was in the process of a deal to “take all the oil”.
And perhaps that’s not surprising because the corporations propping up the Trump regime are the very ones that stand to profit enormously. It’s clear that this is about control, power, and profit. It is a brazen, violent step in a long history of U.S. imperialism.
But Congress has the authority to stop it, because only Congress can declare war. Join with a coalition of allies and more than 100,000 people across the country and call on your Senators and Congressional representative to pass a war powers resolution to stop the Trump-Big Oil occupation of Venezuela.
