Adam Schiff for Senate

John, another weekend, another horrific tragedy at the hands of Donald Trump’s ICE and CBP agents, who have been terrorizing people across the country, and most recently in Minnesota.

This has to stop.

Another person shot and killed.

Another senseless loss of life.

We need these poorly trained agents out of our cities. They should never have been ordered in to communities and states over the objections of state and local law enforcement. They are not improving public safety — they are jeopardizing it.

There is no reason to trust the Trump Administration or the Department of Homeland Security to keep people safe, to tell the truth, or to investigate these terrible shootings.

The head of the agency, Kristi Noem, is baselessly calling victims like Renee Good and Alex Pretti “domestic terrorists” while ICE agents tear gas protesters.

This cannot go on. It just cannot. It’s tearing this country apart.

I will use my position in the Senate to do everything possible to end this chaos and corruption.

John, I will not vote to give another cent to Trump’s ICE or CBP with them operating in this lawless way.

Republicans may shut down the government if they don’t get the additional money for these lawless agencies, but that will be their decision. Do not ask me to be part of it.

These agencies need to be overhauled from top to bottom. And we can start by prohibiting them from mass deployment to any city or state that has not requested their presence. They need to leave Minneapolis, Chicago, Portland, Los Angeles, and anywhere else where their presence is contributing to the chaos and danger to residents.

We have to put an end to this chaos and violence. And while people in Minnesota and around the nation are using their voices in the streets, we need to use our voices and our votes.

We need to withhold any additional funding for the DHS. We need oversight over the department. We need real guardrails on this out-of-control agency.

And when Democrats take over the Congress — and we will — we will investigate and expose the waste, fraud, and abuse that is rife in a department flush with billions. Money is being spent with no oversight — and come November, that will change.

More soon from me, John. I know this is a scary time, I appreciate everything you’re doing, and I will do all I can to make sure you know what is happening and what the Senate can do to stop this mayhem.

— Adam
