The Week in Review
Happy Monday!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I am grateful to serve you all in the 119th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on.
Introducing New Legislation to Block Unvetted Illegal Aliens from Operating Commercial Vehicles
I introduced the Verification of Employment and Residency Integrity For Commercial Driver’s Licenses Act, or VERIFY CDL Act. This legislation would require states to verify an applicant’s authorization to work in the United States through E-Verify before issuing or renewing a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
Recent tragedies in Florida, Oregon, Tennessee, and across the nation exposed a dangerous loophole that allows individuals without lawful work authorization to obtain CDLs in certain states. E-Verify is already widely used across the country and confirms employment eligibility quickly and accurately without expanding bureaucracy or increasing federal spending.
When states issue CDLs without verifying work authorization, they gamble with American lives. Border security does not stop at the border. Until every removable illegal alien is deported, we must ensure our systems are not compounding the damage. The VERIFY CDL Act closes a loophole that never should have existed and puts public safety first. One preventable death is one too many.
Blaze Media covered the legislation here.
The bill may be read here.
Fighting for Pro-Life Policies
I am committed to protecting preborn babies’ right to life and to supporting women through pregnancy. I’ve introduced several bills this Congress that advance pro-life priorities.
- H.Res. 7 - Recognizes the importance of access to comprehensive, high-quality, life-affirming medical care for women of all ages.
- H.R. 48, Ultrasound Informed Consent Act - Ensures that women seeking an abortion receive an ultrasound and the opportunity to review the ultrasound before consenting to receive an abortion.
- H.R. 49, No Pro-Abortion Task Force Act - Prohibits federal funds from being used to support Joe Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services’s (HHS) radical, anti-life Reproductive Healthcare Access Task Force, or any similar future task force.
- H.R. 73, Abortion Is Not Health Care Act - Terminates the Internal Revenue Service's treatment of out-of-pocket abortion costs as a tax-deductible medical expense.
- H.R. 78, Pregnant Women Health and Safety Act - Protects women’s safety by requiring that abortion providers adhere to basic safety standards and have admitting privileges at local hospitals.
As a father and grandfather, I know firsthand that new life is a blessing and sacred gift from God. I will always fight against the radical Left’s anti-life policies, which not only seek to strip the preborn of their right to live, but also force the American taxpayer to fund their genocide. Congress must take a strong stand against the slaughter of innocents in their mothers’ wombs, and I look forward to continuing to work with my Republican colleagues to further pro-life priorities.
I’m honored to have earned an A+ rating on SBA’s Pro-Life America’s scorecard for consistently working to protect the right to life.
Life begins in the womb.
Congress must protect the unborn and fight to ensure that Americans’ taxpayer dollars are never used to fund their slaughter.
Addressing the 53rd Anniversary of the Devastating Roe v. Wade
Last Thursday marked 53 years since the Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalizing abortion at the federal level.
The decision was devastatingly incorrect and has cost millions of innocent lives.
Roe’s overturning was a great win for life and constitutional soundness.

Joining Lila Rose to Expose the Dangers of the Abortion Pill
I was honored to speak at Live Action’s press conference alongside pro-life advocate Lila Rose.
I discussed the dangers of the drug mifepristone, which is responsible for more than 60 percent of abortions in the United States, and urged my colleagues to join me in pushing for it to be removed from the market.
I will never stop fighting for the right to life. Click the image below to hear my remarks at the press conference:
Celebrating President Trump's First Year Back in Office
Tuesday, January 20, marked the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s historic inauguration.
He inherited a shattered economy and a broken country. But thanks to his hard work, our border is more secure than ever, prices are coming down, and our sovereignty on the world stage has been restored.
In just 365 days, he has managed to accomplish more than most presidents do in eight years.
I am thankful for a President who puts AMERICA FIRST, and I’m honored to stand beside him in Congress. Click the image below to hear more about President Trump’s historic first year back in office:
House Oversight Committee Marks Up Clinton Contempt Resolution
The House Oversight Committee voted to advance two resolutions recommending to the House of Representatives that Bill and Hillary Clinton be found in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with duly issued subpoenas.
On July 23, 2025, Republicans and Democrats on the Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee unanimously approved by voice vote a motion to issue subpoenas to ten individuals, including former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for testimony related to the horrific crimes perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Following the Subcommittee vote, on August 5, 2025, Chairman Comer issued the subpoenas.
Former President Clinton’s deposition was initially requested on October 14, 2025, and then moved to December 17, 2025. President Clinton declined this date, citing the need to attend a funeral. The Committee said it would accommodate him if he would propose dates certain in January. He declined. The Committee issued a new subpoena with the deposition date set for January 13, 2026, and he failed to appear.
Former Secretary Clinton’s deposition was initially scheduled for October 9, 2025, and then moved to December 18, 2025. Secretary Clinton declined this date, citing the need to attend a funeral. No one is above the law, not even Bill and Hillary Clinton–something with which Hillary agrees. I will not stop fighting until justice is served. Click the image below to hear some of my remarks from the markup:
House Judiciary Subcommittee Hearing on Minnesota Fraud--With Testimony from Nick Shirley
I chaired a House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance hearing titled “When Public Funds Are Abused: Addressing Fraud and the Theft of Taxpayer Dollars.” I was honored to be joined by three great witnesses:
- Nick Shirley, whose investigative journalism helped to uncover the massive fraud schemes in Minnesota;
- Jennifer Larson, Founder and CEO of Holland Autism Center and Clinic, who testified how widespread fraud harms legitimate providers; and
- Scott Dexter, former police officer and fraud investigator.
Minnesota has lost billions of dollars in state-administered, federally funded programs due to organized fraud. Fraud networks operating in Minnesota, dating back more than a decade, have submitted over $9 billion in false claims. Fraud against federal programs represents a significant financial threat, prompting federal prosecutors to use multiple statutes to investigate and prosecute offenders. Jack Smith Testifies Before House Judiciary Committee
The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing titled “Oversight of the Office of Special Counsel Jack Smith.” The Biden-Harris Department of Justice (DOJ) enabled hyper-partisan prosecutors, in particular Special Counsel Jack Smith, to criminalize politics in America. From the very beginning of Joe Biden’s term, the Biden-Harris Justice Department used the force of law to target its political opponents. Beginning with the Arctic Frost investigation and continuing through Jack Smith’s tenure as Special Counsel, the Biden-Harris DOJ investigated, harassed, and even indicted some conservatives—especially those perceived to be close to President Trump.
I spoke with Jack Smith about his odd decision to charge only a single individual—President Donald Trump—with a federal criminal conspiracy charge, a charge that requires more than one individual. Smith’s testimony made clear that he never cared about the facts of the case; he was always out to get Joe Biden’s political opponents, namely President Trump.
