** John,
------------------------------------------------------------
This weekend, ICE murdered another person. Alex Pretti. An observer who came out to document the horrors ICE is inflicting on his community in Minneapolis.
What came next wasn’t an act of contrition or de-escalation from the federal government. It was more lies and incitement. Federal immigration enforcement should never operate as if it exists above oversight, above due process, or above the law.
And yet in just the first month of 2026, there have been 5 shootings by DHS agents and 6 deaths in their custody. That follows one of their deadliest years in recent history, with 31 people who lost their lives in DHS custody in 2025.
Right now, communities across this country are asking the same question: What the hell is Congress doing to stop this?
We know what we must do. We have to abolish ICE and dismantle DHS.
While we continue organizing to make that a reality, here is the bare minimum I am asking of my colleagues:
* Do not vote for any further DHS funding bills
* Remove Kristi Noem
* Sign on to my bill that would defund ICE & dismantle DHS – the Melt ICE Act
The Melt ICE Act would bar DHS from using detention centers or contracting with new ones, and then redirect the reclaimed funds toward what actually keeps people safe — health care, housing, and critical human services.
This is an agency that is beyond reform. And we must take action NOW before our democracy is lost forever.
Nobody should be able to stay silent as this administration terrorizes our communities.
In Solidarity,
Delia
