Dear Florida Rising Fam,
The 2026 Legislative Session is moving quickly, and this week brought a mix of dangerous bills we’re fighting and strong policies we’re pushing forward. Florida Rising is showing up to protect our communities, demand transparency, and build power for everyday Floridians.
Here’s your quick rundown. ⬇️
⚠️ REMINDER: The Legislative Session is when elected representatives -from both the State Senate and House- introduce legislation they claim is in the best interest of Florida’s voters, economy, environment, and communities. But too often, these officials serve corporate donors’ special interests instead of everyday residents. That’s why we go to Tallahassee – to remind them: put people over profit.

🌴 Good Bills We’re Supporting |
✅ SB 132 – Voting Clarity for Returning Citizens
Sponsored by Sen. Polsky | Criminal Justice Committee on 1/26/26
No one should fear punishment just for trying to vote. The passing of this bill would create a database so returning citizens can easily verify their voting eligibility.
✅ HB 187 – Public Service Commission Transparency & Accountability Sponsored by Rep. Robert Andrade
Passing this bill will improve oversight of the Public Service Commission so utility decisions happen in the open. It would also require justification for utility rate hikes. Transparency protects people, not corporations.
Passing these bills will take pressure. That means flooding inboxes, calling legislators, and talking to our neighbors. Week one is only the beginning. |
Not every proposal deserves to move forward. Some are designed to block participation, target immigrant communities, or consolidate power at the expense of everyday Floridians. |
🚫 Bad Bills We're Fighting Against |
❌ HJR 203 / HJR 209 – Property Tax Changes Sponsored by Rep. Miller & Rep. Busatta | Still moving through committee
These proposals would change Florida’s property tax system without guaranteeing real relief for renters or working families, while risking cuts to schools, healthcare, infrastructure, and so much more. We’re pushing back against policies that benefit wealthy property owners at the expense of our communities.
❌ SB 7006 – Public Service Commission Secrecy Sponsored by Senate Regulated Industries Committee
This bill would reduce transparency at the Public Service Commission, hiding information the public deserves to see, especially around utility rate hikes. It protects investor-owned utility companies and keeps voters in the dark. Tuesday, we will be there to oppose it and report back.
✔ Passed committee on 1/22/26 ➡ Next stop: Rules Committee on 1/27/26
