Dear Herbert,

I often think about the last morning I said goodbye to my daughter, Gina. It was a normal day, filled with the small, everyday routines we often take for granted. I never could have imagined it would be the last time I’d see her brilliant smile or feel her warm embrace.

Throughout the investigation, I learned there were warning signs. Opportunities to intervene. If proven measures like behavioral threat management and red flag laws had been in place — and used effectively — my daughter would still be here today.

That’s why Stand with Parkland refuses to stop pushing forward.

In the months and years after my precious Gina’s murder, I walked the halls of Congress to show lawmakers photos of her beautiful smile, and tell stories about her so they would understand the human cost of inaction.

It will be eight long years since my daughter, her schoolmates, and three school staff members were murdered in their school on February 14th, but fundraising has slowed — and our school safety efforts can’t afford to lose momentum. Because when we lose momentum, inaction takes its place.

Please rush $25 or as much as you can to Stand With Parkland today. Every donation you give will help us put massive pressure on Congress to finally pass legislation that protects America’s children from targeted school violence. [[link removed]]

Gina and the other 16 cherished souls should be here still. That’s why I’ll never stop working as hard as I can to make sure no parent ever has to know the pain of having a child taken by firearm violence.

Thank you,

Tony Montalto (Gina’s dad)
