In recent weeks, there has been a huge radical movement to defund, dismantle, and dissolve police departments around America. Extreme politicians have even joined the anti-police movement by relentlessly criticizing our law enforcement heroes. We are seeing peaceful protests turn violent in many big cities with looting and destruction taking place in the streets.
Because of this President Trump has introduced
Operation LeGend to combat the violent crime we have seen in many American cities. According to U.S. Attorney General William Barr, more than 200 federal agents have already been sent to cities across America to restore public safety, protect our nation’s children, and bring violent perpetrators to justice. These agents are all part of a joint anti-violent crime task force.
Although this may seem like a good solution, this scenario has been set up to create additional dependency upon government at all levels. The federal government does not have a responsibility to clean up local and state messes created by local leaders.
The local electorate is directly responsible for the leadership of their elected officials and these leaders are directly accountable to the communities they serve. To have the federal government assist in these efforts allows the feds to gain control in areas that they should not be. This creates a nationalization of the local police which leads to police who are tasked with carrying out the agenda of a central government, instead of their local communities.
There is no evidence to show that police misbehavior would be reduced if the badge on an officer said "U.S Police" rather than "Local Police". Removing the power from the local level to the federal level would lead to more corruption and oppression, as there would be almost no influence of the public on their local police.
In many countries with a nationalized police force, the liberties of the people are regularly ignored. This is why our Founders wisely placed policing powers in the hands of state and local governments.
The goal of a national police force is exactly what extreme leftists have wanted because it is easier to control the people with law enforcement officers whose allegiance lies with the federal government rather than with the local communities.
