Hi, John --

After winning our primary in New York's First District, I took some time to speak with City and State reporter Annie McDonough about our transition into the general election.

In our interview, we discussed the importance of science, climate action, and the dangers of another two years of hyper-partisan Lee Zeldin leading our district. You can read the interview here:

As you might already know, one of the factors that motivated me to run for office was the inaction I saw from my representative, and now opponent, Lee Zeldin. The climate crisis is a huge threat to our way of life here on Long Island. Sea levels are rising, our coastal shores are eroding, and extreme weather events like Hurricanes Sandy and Irene are becoming more common -- and with more severe impacts.

Recently, presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden released his new infrastructure plan with a focus around clean energy. It is critically important that Vice President Biden has allies in the House who can partner with him to make sure these plans are put in place.

We're in a moment when people are looking to scientists to take leadership, not only for clean energy and climate, but also to get us out of the COVID-19 pandemic safely. If we win this race, I will make history as the first woman with a Ph.D in science ever to serve in the House.

I want to thank you for joining me in this fight to ensure Suffolk County families have a leader in Washington with the knowledge and understanding of the science and technology that will lead our nation forward.

We couldn't do this without you.

Thank you for all that you do.

With gratitude,
Nancy
