Boysko Bulletin: Update on Winter Storm Fern

Dear Friend,

The snow has turned to freezing rain and sleet and cold temperatures will last throughout the week. The National Weather Service has updated the storm to a winter storm warning, expected to last through January 26 at 4 am, with lasting effects on roads and possibly impacts on trees and electricity due to ice. Please stay safe and heed the warning: “Travel could be nearly impossible overnight, and the Monday morning commute will be very treacherous due to ongoing cold conditions and lingering sleet and snow packed roadways.”

Fairfax County and VDOT are encouraging residents to stay off the roads if possible, so that crews can continue plowing and treating the roads, and also for your safety as some roads remain very slick. VDOT crews also need the ability to respond to an emergency if necessary, clearing the way for emergency personnel to reach an incident.

Fairfax County government offices and schools are closed tomorrow. Federal Government Offices are also closed with remote and telework employees expected to work.

You can help keep the roads safe by parking in driveways or on a single side of the street to allow a wider path for plows. Learn more about snow removal by visiting virginiadot.org/snow.

I’ve included storm resources below. Please be careful and stay safe. Enjoy the beauty of the snow.

Kindest regards,
