Susan Collins has one of the most powerful positions in the U.S. government as Senate Appropriations Committee Chair.
She’s so fond of all that supposed power — so let me say this clearly: Now would be a good time to start using it .
Why this matters right now: The Senate is voting this week on a funding bill that would give DHS, ICE, and CBP even more money — and by the way, that’s on top of an 8x budget increase they got last summer in Trump’s so-called “beautiful” bill.

ICE used to have a legitimate law enforcement role in the U.S. government. They also used to have a $10 billion annual budget. Now, they have $85 billion — that’s more money than all the other federal law enforcement agencies combined . And they’re using that money to act as Trump’s secret police, playing war and gleefully terrorizing our communities and our people.
ICE activities are illegal, dangerous, and cruel. And they have absolutely nothing to do with public safety. Any illusion that ICE was trying to keep people safer has been ripped to shreds with the brutal executions of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
As governor, when federal law enforcement agents like ICE and CBP break the law, I would make damn sure they are apprehended and they are held accountable.
Bottom line — this goes so far beyond political parties. This is serious, it’s life and death, and inaction from our leaders is completely unacceptable.
Susan Collins: Use your damn power. Vote NO on this DHS funding increase. Mainers do not support this, and we’re watching you.

And once you do that, call her office directly and tell her there, too: (202) 224-2523.
Thanks for using your voice.
